Hello, My Name is Digby!

Digby “Common” Poorwill (b. 1963) grew up in provincial Wales. Since before he was born, Digby has been fascinated by the complex and rich world of ornithological maneuverability. At age five, his father (at the time a noted paleontologist, the great Dr. Nigel “Buster” Poorwill) gave him as a gift a live cassowary from his expeditions to the orient. Amazed by its likeness to the fabled velociraptor, Digby soon found that his cassowary, lovingly dubbed “Arukitori” (“Walking Bird” in the language of Japan), had a terrible disability: He could not walk backwards. Since that time, Digby has devoted countless hours to discovering if this affliction was universal, or if Arukitori was merely the victim of a mutated recessive gene. From the Americas to Australiasia, he has studied avian movement, and now he has crossed yet another frontier: that of the internet.
